Swimming is a life skill and great form of exercise for people of all ages. The Ryan Family YMCA offers year-round swimming and aquatics programs for everyone, including water exercise classes, swim lessons and swim team, in addition to lap and open swim. The water is great at any age. We offer swim lessons in grou-p and private settings, in addition to water exercise programs to help you reach your fitness goals.
Swim Lessons – Group & Private
The YMCA has been the leader in teaching people to swim for more than 100 years. We offer group and private swim lessons for children (at least 6 months of age) and adults. Our instructors use a variety of methods to help swimmers build confidence in the water and develop safety skills that last a lifetime.

Swim Testing Procedure
For the safety of our members, children under the age of 14 are required to successfully pass a swim test before being allowed to swim in deep water.
Children who do not take or do not pass the swim test must always be within arm’s length of an actively involved adult caregiver who is in the water with the child, or wear a properly fitted USCG approved personal flotation device (PFD).
If the child can stand with their entire head out of the water at the deepest point of the shallow area, a flotation device or caregiver involvement is not required.
Swim Testing Availability: Swim Testing is available during all open swim times, as long as both lifeguards are not engaged in life guarding the water.
Swim Testing Frequency: We will restart our swim test logs weekly.
Please encourage all children to check in with the lifeguard prior to getting in the water. For more information on any of our aquatics programs, call 817-346-8855.
