Frequently Asked Questions
How has the YMCA prepared their facilities for social distancing?
We have taken great steps to prepare our branches for social/physical distancing. We have trained our staff and worked to follow local guidelines the CDC, Tarrant County and City of Fort Worth officials put in place. Examples of our social/physical distancing measures includes spacing out our equipment, limiting facility and room occupancy, and having staff wear masks where they interact with members.
How will you monitor capacity limits?
Our Member Services team will have a dashboard of our facility count. We will be able to monitor our capacity limit as a result. We have created protocols to ensure we stay within our allowed capacity in our building and in each area.
I requested a membership hold; will my membership automatically begin again when facilities reopen?
All YMCA memberships will resume drafting as normal for their June draft; however, we understand many members may not feel comfortable returning to our facilities just yet. If you would like to extend your hold for another 30 days, please complete this extended hold form. Your membership will automatically resume after the 30-day hold period. You must email [email protected] at least three business days before your next draft date if you need to extend your hold for another month.
Will group exercise classes be offered?
We will be offering group exercise classes when we reopen at a limited schedule and spacing. Some classes will be held in larger spaces to help with our social/physical distancing measures.
Will temperature checks be required prior to entry?
We will be performing temperature checks on our staff as well as children entering Y Playhouse. We will also be reminding our members to follow our Member Behavior Policy which includes making sure they self-report if they begin to feel symptoms and stay home if they are feeling ill. We will also require members to sign an updated waiver prior to entering our branches.
Will a mask be required while using the facility (staff and members)?
We will be requiring our front-line staff to wear masks that are in proximity to members and other staff. We ask our members to follow the guidelines of the CDC and our local government regarding wearing masks.
Where is the coffee?
We are taking a crawl, walk, run approach to getting back to reopening our facilities. When we are ready, we will open coffee service again. There are many logistics involved with our staff preparing and serving coffee while running other operations and we hope to be able to add it soon.
Why don’t you have towel service?
Towels are used to wipe sweat, soiled surfaces, and/or moisture from one’s body. Staff members would be responsible for gathering a large amount of those soiled towels to launder them. This poses a greater risk to our staff members and we decided to discontinue towel service temporarily as a result.
Will you offer summer day camp?
We know our Y day campers and parents are eager to get outside and enjoy their best summer ever after a really challenging spring. We’ve modified our camp plans to ensure a safe and fun experience for every child. As always, the safety of our participants is our number one priority. We’re following guidelines from the CDC and the American Camping Association to ensure that our kids can get outside, safely connect with each other and have a fun summer to remember. While this summer may look different, we are still planning to offer a day camp experience that includes many of our camper’s favorite activities at various locations around Fort Worth. Registration will open soon – learn more.
Will you offer summer swim lessons?
While our pools will open on June 1, we are still working to finalize plans for summer swim lessons. As always, the health and safety of our participants, staff and community is our top priority. Registration has been temporarily paused but we will continue to provide updates regarding swim lessons on this page so please check back often.
