What to Wear:

  • All riders are required to wear ASTM/SEI certified riding helmets.
  • All riders are required to wear their own long pants.
  • Riders must wear sturdy closed-toe shoes with a smooth sole.
  • Boots are encouraged, but not required.
  • Loaner boots & helmets are available at no additional charge.

Ride Safely, Have Fun

YMCA Camp Carter’s equestrian programs combine safe and healthy horses, trained staff, and excellent facilities to create a positive atmosphere where campers can focus on horses.

Private Riding Lessons

Our goal is to teach participants the fundamentals of riding while developing skills, coordination, confidence, and self-esteem.

Pony Express

This class teaches riders, ages 4-8, horse safety, grooming tools and how to lead a horse.

Junior Wrangler

Designed for riders ages 8-16, each day will include both mounted and ground-based lessons.

Birthday Parties

This hands-on horse experience allows participants to brush, pet, paint or ride a horse around the arena.

From volunteer projects, team outings and more, and we can customize a program to fit your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

All participants must wear jeans or riding breaches. Please also bring a water bottle. Participants may wear their own smooth soled Cowboy/Cowgirl style boots and may bring their own current horseback riding helmet (subject to staff inspection and approval). We also have loaner boots and helmets available for use.

Where is the Equestrian Center located?

YMCA Camp Carter Equestrian Center’s address is 5800 Meandering Rd., Fort Worth, TX 76114. It is located though the gates to the Castleberry Sports Complex.

We make safety a priority and require that everyone follow our barn rules. These will be covered at the beginning of the party.

There is a flat fee of $250 for the first 10 children. $15 for each additional child up to a maximum of 15 paid guests total. We have 2 picnic tables and a large folding table available and you can bring cake, snacks, prepared foods, and drinks. Party set up is allowed 30-minutes prior to the start of the party but if guests arrive early, they will need to wait outside of the barn until the party officially starts. All clean-up of food, drinks, decorations, party favors, etc. is the responsibility of the parents.
