Background checks are completed along with personal and professional references. All of our camps are licensed by the Texas Department of Family & Protective Services.
What can my child expect at Day Camp?
Each week at Camp Whatchawannabe campers can expect a week full of adventure! Camp is a place where they will make new friends while participating in a variety of activities like crafts, and games, all geared toward a specific theme. Our trained staff will lead the campers in character development activities, team building games, and weekly field trips.
What is the staff/child ratio at camp? Our camp follows a ratio of 1 staff to 10 children. During some activities and field trips the ratio is lower.
What does my camper need to bring to camp? Please label everything your child brings. A few camp necessities include lunch, water bottle, backpack, swim suit, towel, sunscreen, hat, tennis shoes, and comfy clothes.
Does the Y provide snacks? Yes, we provide a morning and afternoon snack. Please be sure to list any allergies on your enrollment form. Snack menus will be available each month.
What about swimming? Campers will have the opportunity to swim each Friday at the Northwest YMCA, with additional days during weeks 5,10, & 11. Campers who wish to swim in the deeper end of the pool will be tested by YMCA lifeguards each day. Campers will wear flotation devices if they are not strong swimmers and all swimming is supervised by YMCA lifeguards and camp staff at all times. Swim lessons are available – ask any membership service staff at the Northwest YMCA for times and availability.
How can I reach camp? Each camp has a cell phone – numbers will be provided in our Parent Handbook and at our Parent Meeting on May 31st at 7pm – location TBA.

Summer Resident Camp
Since 1948, Camp Carter YMCA has been a special place for youth to grow. Created especially for the youth of our community, there are few places where values are so important. At Camp Carter, each camper has the opportunity to learn, grow and have fun as they meet new friends, try new things and develop greater confidence in themselves.
At Camp Carter, children can be themselves in a fun and challenging environment where self-confidence, individuality and camaraderie flourish. The program is customized to the camper’s age and level of development. Every day is packed with sports and activities, which leave each camper with improved skills and exciting memories.
Camp Carter also offers a host of programs that are enjoyed year-round by our guests.
